Currency
The currency used in France is the Euro which is made up of 100 centimes. Bills come in denominations of €100, €50, €20, €10 and €5. The coins in use are €2, €1, 50c, 20c, 10c, 5c, 2c and 1c.

The Banque de France no longer provides an exchange service.

Exchange Bureaux (Offices)
To exchange your currency use an Exchange Bureaux, that specializes in exchanging foreign currency. ID may be required. Banks and exchange bureaux, fix their rates according to the market. All rates should be displayed outside the agency.
A commission is usually charged on an exchange transaction and will vary from office and sometimes according to the form of payment (cash, traveler’s cheques or credit card). It is advisable to check this prior to beginning the transaction so as to avoid any unnecessary complications. As a general rule it is not a good idea to exchange small sums, as the commission will be proportionally higher.

ATM, Automatic Cashpoints - The essentials
ATM, Automatic Cashpoints enable you to withdraw Euros 24 hours a day. Some cash dispensers will give you the choice of instructions in French, English and/or other languages.
The majority of international cards are accepted by cash dispensers. As you may incur bank charges or fees for overseas banking services, we advise you, before your departure, to verify the fee policies for such services with your bank.
Lost or Stolen Credit Cards, Traveler’s Cheques
Report the theft of credit cards, traveler’s cheques to the nearest Préfecture de Police (police station). Call your card issuer (bank or other organization) and give them your credit card number. They will immediately block your card and organize a replacement.
